Remembrances and celebrations…

Remembrance celebrations like the birthday of Gjergj Kastriot Skenderbeu

Skenderbeu

Remembrance celebrations like the birthday of Gjergj Kastriot Skenderbeu, Albania’s Independence Day and Kosovo’s Independence Day are important as they are a way for children to understand and inherit their parents’ culture and strengthen their sense of national identity. The preparation period leading up to these events is busy and interactive, with different activities depending on the occasion – every year on his birthday, for example, we take groups of parents and children to visit Gjergj Kastriot Skenderbeu’s bust here in London.
One special mention must go to our partnership with the Museum of London… Last year, we brought the Legend of The Castle of Rozafa to the stage, and followed it with Albanian lullabies. Amazingly, this event was one of the most popular in the London Museum’s calendar, and from morning until evening the sound of our language filled the air. Children and adults in national costumes flowed through the halls, rooms and stage of this historic and renowned building, while Albanian dance and song were performed to traditional Albanian instruments. It was momentous!
On that memorable day, London’s Museum spoke Albanian.
