400;\">Migrant Londoners are entitled to a range of health services, but sometimes it is not as easy as it should be to navigate NHS support.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On this page, you will find information about NHS services, and resources to support migrant Londoners to access healthcare.<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span rel=\"noopener\"><b>Where can I get more information?<\/b><\/a><\/li><\/ul><h2><b>Primary Care<\/b><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Registering with your local GP (General Practitioner) Surgery is the most direct way to access the NHS services you need. Your GP is there to listen to concerns you have about your health and provide advice. Your GP will let you know if you need other NHS services and will help you to get an appointment.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/primary-medical-care-policy-and-guidance-manual-pgm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>NHS Guidance<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, everyone in England is entitled to register and consult with a GP without charge. Find your local GP by using the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/service-search\/find-a-gp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>\u00a0NHS choices website<\/b><\/a><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although GP receptionists may ask you to provide proof of address and photo ID when you register, these documents are\u00a0<\/span><b>not necessary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and you should not be refused registration if you are unable to provide them.\u00a0<\/span><b>Your immigration status does not affect your right to register with a GP<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To help you assert your rights, NHS England have developed \u2018My right to register\u2019 cards\u2019 which can be downloaded\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doctorsoftheworld.org.uk\/gp-access-cards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>here<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You can show this to the GP receptionist when you register.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have problems registering with a GP surgery, call the NHS England Customer 400;\">A new\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inclusion-health.org\/pcn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Inclusion Health Self-Assessment Tool<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0is available to support Primary Care Networks (PCN) assess their performance.<\/span><\/p><h2><b>Secondary Care<\/b><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People who are not \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/736849\/Ordinary_residence_tool.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>ordinarily resident<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 in the UK may have to pay for some NHS services they receive in hospital or from services in the community, due to the NHS charging regulations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, some services are exempt and available free for everyone regardless of their immigration status:<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exempt services:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accident and Emergency (A&amp;E)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Family planning (excluding termination of pregnancy)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Treatment for communicable disease<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2020 the NHS migrant charging\u00a0<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/uksi\/2020\/59\/contents\/made\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><i>regulations<\/i><\/b><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0in England were amended to include COVID-19 in the list of diseases exempt from NHS charging.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Survivors of torture, female genital mutilation, domestic violence, sexual violence should not be charged for treatment needed as a result of their experience of violence (including mental health treatment).<\/span><\/i><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exempt groups:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-EEA nationals who have paid the health surcharge as part of their visa application to enter or remain in the UK<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Refugees (those granted asylum, humanitarian protection or temporary protection under the immigration rules) and their dependents;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Asylum seekers (those applying for asylum, humanitarian protection or temporary protection whose claims, including appeals, have not yet been determined), and their dependents;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Individuals receiving section 95 support and refused asylum seekers, and their dependents, receiving section 4 support or local authority support under Part 1 of the Care Act 2014;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children who are looked after by a local authority;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Survivors of modern slavery;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those receiving treatment under the Mental Health Act;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prisoners and those held in immigration detention and;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Refused asylum seekers in Scotland and Wales.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Short-term visitors from the EU who are not covered by the new UK-EU agreement on reciprocal healthcare (including former UK residents) may be charged for NHS treatment.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your treatment is urgent or immediately necessary it should not be withheld, even if you are unable to pay, although you may receive a bill afterwards. Maternity care is always deemed immediately necessary. More details about this and other information relevant to data-sharing can be found on the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/maternityaction.org.uk\/advice\/information-sharing-between-the-home-office-and-the-nhs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Maternity Action website<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whilst being charged for your healthcare can be concerning it is important that you get the care that you need; support is available if you are worried about a bill.\u00a0You could ask the NHS Trust if you can pay your bill in small instalments or if you live or work in London, the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marywardlegal.org.uk\/contact-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Mary Ward legal centre<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0may be able to help you arrange a repayment plan with the NHS Trust.
